Defiant sat on the other side of the ship. Head hanging.

She made her way to her feet.

He did what needed to be done. It was what had initially attracted her to him. He was ambitious, good at heart, he was proud, and she sympathized with that on a level.

But that wasn’t what had cinched the deal.

He’d set all of this in motion, he’d trusted her. Both of her, in this case.

He’d believed in her ability to see this through.

Her arms wrapped around him. He hugged her fiercely, as if he’d never let go.

“I love you, Colin,” she murmured.

In that tight hold, she was free.
In a story with a hugely bittersweet (more bitter than sweet, really) main ending, it's nice to see female robot superman get her happy ending.

Fuck... well, I would say America, but it's not just America. Britain is pretty absurd too (though I could see them not liking a game with an unintentional two finger salute on the cover, given that a game with a middle finger on the cover would not go over well here)

So, I watched Chronicle yesterday and it was an amazing movie.

I have to rave about it here so that anyone here who hasn't seen it goes and watches it. The movie is a essentially a superhero origin story, but it takes "teens get super-powers" to its logical conclusion: the trio of empowered high school seniors spend much of their time playing, pulling pranks, and doing party tricks while spending nearly zero time in costumes fighting crime. Through a very convincing and well-paced series of events, shit gets real and the finale of the movie happens. It is extremely awesome and it pulls off some of the showier parts of Akira and Dragon Ball Z without being stupid or contrived.

The writing for the movie was very good and all the characters were realistic and three-dimensional. The teens feel like teens and one character coming from a dysfunctional family is handled very expertly. This is one of the best-done superhero movies I've ever seen. You should watch this. Sadly it's not available streaming on Netflix or Amazon Prime but you can get the physical disc from the former, or rent it from the latter. Or you could rent it from a video store, if that's still a thing you do; the movie came out last year so it's probably in stock.

Watch Chronicle because watching almost anything else is you sub-optimally spending an hour and 24 minutes.

If you're interested, here's the (slightly spoiler-containing) Movie Bob/Escape to the Movies review.

The Space Quest 2 VGA remake fucking rules.

It starts out kind of slow and the narrator VA starts out shaky, but he really grows into the role about halfway into the game when he starts becoming more snarky and irritated at Wilco. He's no Gary Owen or John Rhys Davies, but who the hell is?

You'll only really appreciate the game if you take the time to click Talk/Smell/Taste on everything. And I mean absolutely everything, even background rocks. It's amazing the amount of effort they put into jokes and snark in this game.

Also, I'm a bit surprised at how easy SQ2 is once you take out the whole 'guess the verb' crap from the game. There are still some really blatant spots and actions you can do that can permanently fuck yourself over, but without a command prompt it's much easier to avoid unwinnable states as long as you take care to explore everything.

Your freedom to add and change rules in the middle of the game is in direct conflict with my ability to understand that rules system before I decided whether or not to join your game.

In short, your entire post is dismissive of not merely my intelligence, but my agency. And I don't mean agency as a player within one of your games, I mean my agency as a person. You do not want me to be informed when I make the fundamental decisions of deciding whether to join your game or buying your rules system.

Some pretty funny posts about Chrono Cross enemies.
The Komodo is a blue innate enemy and the beast at the center of Chrono Cross’s “mushroom quest,” if you get my meaning. Serge’s girlfriend asks him to get her 3 individual Komodo scales for to make a necklace, as is the fad in the idyllic beachside community of Arni Village, and our hero happily responds by slaughtering 3 individual Komodos and taking just one scale from each. The massacre is set to pleasant tropical music, but let’s be honest here this is some slasher movie stuff; Serge traps a Komodo in a tunnel with a boulder before stabbing it with his weird murder oar, jumps on one them from on top of a cliff, just straight up chases one in a circle until it gets tired… it’s pretty messed up. And if siccing a magical dog on these little guys wasn’t bad enough, he then murders their grieving mother. Way to go, dude. Don’t take any of her scales, though, we wouldn’t want her death to have meaning. Seriously, though, there is hella demand in your village, you should be stripping these suckers bare.

The message of the game’s first act could be described as “pro-environment” or perhaps “Serge it’s kind of weird that your interests keep directly coinciding with the eradication of precious species and biomes, you should maybe re-evaluate your lifestyle a little bit.” Inspirational stuff.

You can get a Komodo scale for free by lauding some guy’s hot fish dreams, but it doesn’t count towards your 3 scale total. I imagine it’s gauche for a lady to wear scales un-soaked in the fresh blood of innocent lizards. Instead this gift scale is swapped with a lovesick streetrat for cool earthbending powers. GREAT GAME.

How long will it take to capture Yavin 4? 2 days
Will Leia be killed? Yes
Total Rebel civillian casualties: 500 dead
Total military casualties Rebel: 3000 dead
Total military casualties Empire: 15 dead
Will the Rebel army regulars hold the lines? No
Will the Republican Guard fight to the end? No
Will chem/bio weapons be used on invading troops?: Yes
Will Mothma launch attacks on the Correlians? Yes
Will Mothma launch attacks on Tatooin? No
-If yes; will Tatooin retaliate harshly? Yes
Will Mothma sacrifice the Rebel Base (gas/nuke it)? No
Will the Wookies make a grab for independence? Yes
Will Bespin do anything silly like try for land? Yes
Will Calrissian burn the oil fields? Yes
How long will the Empire be occupying the Rebel Base? ~15 years
Will the Rebel war catalyze increased terrorism in the Empire? No
In the long run, will this war be good or bad for the galaxy? Good

We have to look at what those civilian casualties are- just because they're civilian doesn't make them innocent! Lets take a look at a few possibilities:

1) A civilian walking down the street to market gets killed by a photon torpedo fired at the market.

2) A civilian asleep in their house is killed when their house is targetting by a droid and blown up.

OK, these two are regrettable innocents being killed- but since the Empire doesn't make a habit of targetting markets or houses, they're very small in number!

3) A civilian working at a chemical weapon factory gets killed when the chemical weapon plant is bombed.

4) A civilian security guard at a weapons depot is killed when the weapons explode.

5) A civilian contractor repairing a tank is killed by a MOAB dropped on the unit.

6) A civilian engineer is killed when the military command center he works at is destroyed.

7) A civilian delivering snackiecakes to the Rebel bunker vending machines eats a 5,000lb bunker buster.

etc, etc. The list goes on. My point is that there are a lot of civilians directly supporting the military that aren't exactly "innocent" and would be mire rightly counted among the military casualties than civilian. I'm a civilian and work for the Empire military, but I acknowledge I'm also a valid military target because of what I do. And I think the vast majority of civilian casualties in this campaign will not be innocent.

Especially the video near the end with the girls running alongside the train.

I kept hoping for one of the 'frozen' bystanders to suddenly whip their head around and hiss or something horror movie-esque, but it can't be perfect I guess.

Carefully paste text into your rulebook so that your rulings were right. Sneak into your friend's houses and change the other player's rulebooks if they have any. Do the redirect thing with your wifi network to send them to a fake version of the SRD where your ruling was correct. Slowly gaslight them. Text your pizza place to change your group's order after you place it, then play a carefully created tape to convince them you were right all along. Lies and misdirection: This is how you become a real GM.
